Alva Marie Forrest Nowlin, 86, of De Leon, went home to her Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 17, 2015, with her family by her side.

She was born May 5, 1929, in Robinson Springs, Texas, to Alva Guy and Isabell Woodfin Forrest. Marie married Dean Nowlin December 18, 1948, in Rock Bluff, Texas.

Marie worked as a librarian for many years at Katy High School and she and Dean returned to De Leon in 1976. She was employed at the Comanche County Tax Office for many years. Marie was a long time member of First Baptist Church of De Leon after transferring her membership from Comanche First Baptist Church. She was a talented cook and made delicious baked goods. In her later years, she really enjoyed spending time on her computer. She loved her family dearly and cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dean Nowlin; son, Gary Nowlin and wife, Jan; daughter, Patti Bacon; four grandchildren, Michael Nowlin, Callie Nowlin, Kelly Brown and Lesli Strube; four great-grandchildren, Desiree Brown, Davon Brown, Starli Strube and Scout Strube; sister, Gladys Pounds; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church at 125 South Houston Street, De Leon, Texas, or to the Community Rehab Project, in memory of Marie.

The Nowlin family wishes to thank the staff at De Leon Nursing Home for their loving care provided to Marie. To our family at First Baptist Church, we thank you for the outpouring of love shown to our family. We are forever grateful to our friends in the De Leon community.
