Obituary

Anna Bell Swanner, age 105, peacefully met her Lord and Savior Thursday, November 12, 2020. She was born February 28, 1915, in Cone, Texas to A.A. and Eunice (Swinney) Nance. Anna Bell married her loving husband Marvin Swanner on November 24, 1935, in Morton, Texas. She always said Marvin went first so he could build their heavenly home and she wished he would hurry up and finish because she missed him.  He finished the build on Thursday in time for her to join him for their 85 th wedding anniversary.

Anna Bell was a devoted and loving homemaker for her family. She lived in the De Leon area until 2003 when she moved to Stephenville to help care for her daughter.  She later lived in Lubbock, TX and more recently in Corsicana, TX.  While in De Leon, Anna Bell and Marvin were active members of North Side Baptist Church.  After Marvin's death, Anna Bell was active at St. Joe Baptist Church. She played the piano for years for several churches as well as on Sundays at the local nursing home services. She and Marvin also enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes at Canterbury Villa in the seventies and eighties. They actively plugged in however they could with their church family, including helping with Vacation Bible School and various other ministries.

Anna Bell enjoyed many hobbies including crocheting, gardening and spending time outdoors. She was an avid reader and loved her kindle app on her phone.  She enjoyed life, loved being the life of the party and was always ready for a photo or video to post to her Facebook page.  She was the matriarch of the family and she wore the mantle well.  She also enjoyed talking and was always ready with a laugh and wise advice born from 105 years of living. Anna Bell loved her family, and they were the center of her life. She was a loving and devoted wife, a selfless mother, a doting grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend. Most importantly, she was the hands and feet of Jesus to her family and she prayed fervently for those she loved.  Anna Bell leaves behind quite a legacy after her 105 years on this earth. One of love, kindness, selflessness, courtesy, respect, and a deep love and appreciation for God and his many blessings in her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Anna Bell is survived by her sons, Kenneth A. Swanner (Bettie) of Waxahachie, TX, and Eugene Swanner (Mary) of Pine Grove, CA.; grandchildren, Pam Dillon (Tony) of San Angelo, TX, Dan Swanner (Jeanne) of Edwardsville, IL, Betty Pack (Scotty) of Stephenville, TX, Dennis Slater (Gay) of Malakoff, TX, Tempi Briggs (Alvin) of Corsicana, TX, Joe Slater (Misty) of Granbury, TX, Marvin Swanner (Donna) of Sutter Creek, CA, Ken Swanner (Nancy) of Sutter Creek, CA, and Cheryl Rupley (Rob) of Sutter Creek, CA.; twenty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Brooks of Portales, TX, and Ethel Sanders of San Angelo, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Swanner (1992); daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Charles Jacobs; and great-granddaughter, Amber Lynn Pack.

Graveside funeral services were held November 15, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. in De Leon Cemetery with Brother Daniel Harper officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Baptist Convention at 901 Commerce Street, Suite 600, Nashville, TN 37203, in memory of Anna Bell.
