Michael Anthony Brinson, 69, of De Leon, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the end of a peaceful day he spent trout fishing with his family in Eagle Nest, New Mexico.
Anthony was born March 23, 1947 in Gorman, Texas to Casey Allen Brinson and Avis L. Pittman Brinson. He married his wife of 43 years, Janet Park, December 23, 1972, in De Leon. He and Janet have lived in De Leon for most of their lives. They have two children, Jason Brinson and Jami (Brinson) Creekmore.
Anthony grew up in De Leon and graduated from De Leon High School in 1965. He is a long time member of First United Methodist Church of De Leon. Anthony was a cattle dealer, rancher and auctioneer for over 50 years. He was the cattle order buyer for Clifton Cattle Company for 11 years and traveled to many different areas to cattle auctions and bought cattle for the company. He then moved back to De Leon where he bought and raised cattle and started his own business, Jason Cattle Company, which is still in operation today.
Anthony had been a licensed Auctioneer from 1964 to the present. He was well known throughout Texas for his auctioneering talent. During his lifetime, he donated his time to many organizations to raise money for various events. Some of these included: Central Texas Youth Fair in Clifton for 36 years; Chairman in this area for Round-Up for West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene for 26 years; Peach and Melon Festival auctions for 45 years; and First United Methodist Church Harvest Festival Auctions for 51 years. He also held the cake auctions for the junior class fall festivals many times over the years as well as benefit auctions to raise money for people in need. He received the Chamber of Commerce Award for Man of the Year in 2014.
Anthony was a committed friend and community member. He was a helpful neighbor and a fun guy to spend time with. His family meant the world to him and his grandkids brought him so much joy. Anthony loved to live life outdoors. He was his happiest while working his cattle and ranching, fishing, hunting, and coaching and watching De Leon softball and baseball, where he was commonly known as "Super Pop". He will be deeply missed by his family, neighbors, friends, the De Leon community, and his auctioneer circle.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet; son, Jason Brinson and wife, Kendall; daughter, Jami Creekmore and husband, James; grandchildren, Kailson Brinson, Brice Brinson, Emerson Creekmore and Hunter Creekmore; brothers, C.A. Brinson and wife, Patsy, and Jeff Brinson and wife, Gail. Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Casey and Avis Brinson.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor John Woodard officiating. Graveside services followed in Downing Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Speed Williams, Lannes Callison, David Gilder, Larry Don Womack, Tim Beaty, Mike Huddleston, Jackson Jobe and Rickey Koonce. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Newton, Joe Paul McCullough, Robby Wilkerson, Bill Preston, Jerry McGinnis, Jerry Solomon, Tommy Ashley, Tommy Butler, Garland Bingham, Dell Cothren, Allen Stone and Brad Hammonds.
