Beatrice Modell Pittman, 94, of Arlington, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

She was born April 30, 1921, in Enloe, Texas, to Marvin L. Pittman and Edna Allsup Pittman.

Beatrice was a member of Woods Chapel Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. She was an active member of the 4-H Club from 1931 until 1939 and won all high honors in Collin County for three consecutive years. She graduated from De Leon High School in Comanche County in 1940. After high school, she attended John Tarleton in Stephenville.

In January 1943, she moved to Dallas and worked with Bell Telephone Company for 10 years. She was a member of the Rebeca Lodge (women's lodge) of the Odd Fellows. Beatrice also served in the Marine Reserves. She travelled to 26 states working for American Photo out of New York City for a little over a year. Later, she worked for SMU Law School and attended non-credit classes. From there, she went to work for the Dallas County Sheriff Office and in 1968 she joined the Arlington Police Department where she later retired in 1983.

Beatrice was interested in square dancing in college and took lessons and started dancing regularly in 1955. She danced in several locations: Corpus Christi, Memphis, Dallas and Fort Worth. She belonged to many dancing clubs, the last club being the Trail Blazers of Ft. Worth. She danced at least twice a week and often five or six nights a week. Some of the dancing groups were Levi & Lace, Beachcombers, Gadabouts and Armadillo Squares.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in De Leon Cemetery with Brother Ennis Joiner officiating.
