Obituary

Billie Jim Cox, 88, of Bridgeport and formerly of De Leon, passed away December 10, 2019. He was born November 2, 1931, in Energy, Texas to Car l E. Cox and Alice McPherson Cox. He married Marlene Girard on November 13, 1952 in Montague, Texas.

Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church of De Leon. He served in the United States Army stateside. Bill and Marlene moved to De Leon from Tuscan, Arizona in 1986. He was employed in the construction business most all his life and worked mostly with sheet metal. He loved to spend his spare time outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking countryside rides. Bill was a long time Mason with the Armstrong Masonic Lodge #445 in De Leon. In his later years, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his coffee shop buddies at HWY 6 Café in De Leon, his buddies he knew while in Tucson, and his friends in Bridgeport at the various spots he was known to frequent . Bill had a reputation for carrying around Tootsie Rolls and handing them out to people as well as the advice he would give you to go along with it. Bill was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and loyal friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son, Billie Jim Cox, Jr.; granddaughter, Melissa Khammash and husband, Yousef; grandsons, Carl Cox and wife, Jeanette, and Aaron Cox and wife, Melissa; great-grandsons, Nolan Cox, Hamza Khammash, Bilal Khammash and Yasir Khammash; siblings, Peggie Penn and husband, Pete, Harold Cox and wife, Cleta; Lola Carr; Gary Cox and wife, Marsha; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; parents, Car l and Alice Cox; and siblings, Charles and Patsy.

Funeral services celebrating Bill's life were held Friday, December 20, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home, De Leon. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children at 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219, in memory of Bill.
