Bobbie Ruth Colwell McKillip, 79, of Desdemona, TX, was the image of a servant-hearted, candy-toting grandma. On July 13, 2014, she went home to add her beautiful alto voice to the angel choir.
Bobbie was born on February 25, 1935 in Abilene, TX to Robert and Ruth Colwell. She married her one and only true love, Troy Lee McKillip, on June 9, 1953 and wore her wedding ring until the day they were reunited.
She enjoyed her job with the United States Postal Service for over a quarter of a century and greatly loved the people she got to visit with daily. Bobbie was actively involved in her church and community, and she was a shining example of what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself" no matter the person's past.
She is survived by her four children: son Jerry McKillip and wife LaQuita of Gorman, TX; son Mark McKillip of Arlington, TX; daughter Carolyn Rogers and husband Rusty of Brownwood, TX; and son Ken McKillip and wife Cherrie of Brownwood, TX; sister Barbara Janda of Thornton, CO; brother Henry Colwell and wife Sylvia of Bryan, TX; sisters-in-law Lueta Clark and husband Donald of Clovis, NM and Ima Jean Stone of Marble Falls, TX; brother-in-law Truman McKillip and wife Mary of North Carolina; as well as her pride and joy — Ten granddaughters, 2 grandsons, and fourteen great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Bobbie was reunited in death with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as her husband Troy L. McKillip; parents Robert and Ruth Colwell; in-laws Lawrence and Esther McKillip; and little sister Jeannie Smith.
If desired, memorial donations be made to the Desdemona Activity Center (DAC), PO Box 2, Desdemona, TX 76445.
A celebration of her life was held on Wednesday, July 16 at 11:00 am at the Desdemona Church of Christ — 6129 Hwy 8, Desdemona, TX.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the countless prayers and visitors as well as the staff at Comanche Hospital and Hendrick Hospital in Abilene.
