Bruce
Mcginnis
Apr 7, 1941 — Apr 5, 2014
Bruce McGinnis, 72, of Amarillo, TX, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born April 7, 1941, in Gorman to Irvin Gayle McGinnis and Hazel Francis Ware McGinnis.
Bruce graduated from De Leon High School in 1959. Subsequently he received both his Bachelor of Art and Master of Art Degrees from Hardin-Simmons University in the early sixties. He later completed the balance of his course work toward a Ph.D. in English at Texas Tech University. After thirty-seven years of dedication, Bruce retired from Amarillo College as a Professor of English.
Outside of his teaching career, he was an award-winning author of many novels and wrote several volumes of poetry. He was a member of the Texas Writer's Association. He thoroughly enjoyed writing fiction and he enjoyed reading literature just as much as he did creating it.
Bruce enjoyed numerous hobbies which included collecting antique farm equipment, saddles and spurs. He also built quite a collection of arrowheads. At the top of his many achievements in life were his children and grandchildren. He loved each of them dearly and was profoundly proud of them.
He is survived by his son, John McGinnis and wife, Victoria; daughters, Lacy Kastler and husband, Tom, and Angela Waggoner and husband, Monte; brothers, Bill McGinnis and wife, Linda, and Bob McGinnis and wife, Carrie; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Bruce was preceded in death by his
parents.
Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in Downing Cemetery with Brother Jackie Auvenshine officiating.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to BSA Hospice of Amarillo at 600 N. Tyler St., Amarillo, TX 79107 or to Medical Center League House at 7000 W. Amarillo Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79106, in
memory of Bruce.
