Obituary

Carolyn Ann Otwell, 80, of Granbury, formerly of De Leon, peacefully passed away at her home Friday, July 31, 2020. She was born May 2, 1940, in Gorman, Texas to Joe and Bertha Atchley. Carolyn married James Otwell November 16, 1957.

Carolyn was raised in Comanche County and lived in De Leon until 2007 when she moved to Granbury to live with her daughter, Beckie. Carolyn was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, Hwy 6. She worked until her retirement as a cafeteria employee for De Leon ISD. She loved her career and the opportunity it provided her to be a part of the lives of so many children. Her love for others overflowed into her personal life as well. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking for others and always loved to have a house full of kids. Carolyn hosted many family functions and was always her happiest while visiting with others. If someone could not come to see her, she would go to see them! Carolyn was a loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother, caring sister, faithful friend and loving neighbor. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Campbell; Beckie Rene Wilcox and husband, Marvin; and De'Onza Moore; son, Dustynn Otwell and wife, Marie ; grandchildren, Clinton Rogers and wife, Sonja, Cody Rogers and wife, Lacey, Chance Wright, Joshua Stevens, Peyton Otwell, and Maddison Otwell; great-grandchildren, Macie Rogers and Trevor Rogers; numerous nieces and nephews; life-long friend, Leta Mull; and other extended family. Carolyn has been reunited with her husband, James; parents, Joe and Bertha Atchley; sister, Lila Mae Decker; brothers, Kenneth Atchley, James Ray Atchley and Benny Atchley; and son-in-law, Dee Campbell.

Graveside funeral services celebrating Carolyn's life were held Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in Comyn Cemetery with Minister Kris Groda officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Nicky Don Wilkerson, Joey Mahan, Brandon Burrows, Chris Maples, Mark Beaty, and Laramie Callison. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Smith, Robert Moore, Randy Barnes and Glen Davis.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in memory of Carolyn.

Due to the current COVID-19 regulations on group gatherings, we kindly ask that any friends planning to attend Carolyn's graveside service respectfully stand at least 20 feet from the tent. Also, please do not gather in groups larger than 10 people (at the advised 6 foot distance). The tent seating will be reserved for immediate family only. We are saddened that we cannot currently allow friends to pay their respects to the Otwell family with a traditional ceremony. The family appreciates your understanding of the graveside safety regulations and is thankful for your continued prayers and kind thoughts during this difficult time. Masks are encouraged if social distancing is not possible.
