Charlie Phelps, 73, of De Leon, passed away November 4, 2017. He was born December 11, 1943, in Staunton, VA to Charles Horton Phelps and Gracie Virginia Farrish Phelps. Charles married Kathy Redd August 4, 1965, in Palatka, Florida.
Charlie and Kathy moved to the De Leon area in 1977. He was employed as a truck driver in the oil industry for many decades. Charlie enjoyed hunting, traveling, riding four wheelers, and spending all the time he could outdoors. He was always his happiest while spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Charlie will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Kathy Redd; son, Charles Clayborne Phelps, Jr. (Chuck) and wife, Laura; honorary son, Jaret Singleton; honorary daughter, Shelley Singleton; grandchildren, Coleman Phelps and wife, Alexis, Cooper Phelps and Cannon Phelps; great- grandson, Hudson Phelps; brothers, John Phelps and Mike Phelps; sister, Linda Phelps; nephew, Jr. Gerth and wife, Shelley; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gracie Phelps; and sister, Mary Gerth.
A celebration of Charlie's life was held Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Kenneth Wilson officiating.
