C.M. (Pug) Guthery, 87, of Desdemona, passed away peacefully at his home February 3, 2018, with his family by his side.
He was born November 19, 1930, in the Jakehamon Community of Desdemona to Roy and Nanny Elizabeth Purdue Guthery. Pug married Vonnie Keith December 23, 1950.
Pug lived in the Desdemona area most all of his life and was a longtime member of Desdemona First Baptist Church. He was self-employed in the oil and gas industry for many years as a contract pumper. He was also a peanut farmer for many decades. Pug loved witching for water and oil and considered it a special God given talent. He enjoyed spending time outdoors rock hunting, treasure hunting and deer hunting. Pug was a hard worker, a devoted family man, and a loving friend and neighbor.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Fair and Belinda Webb; grandchildren, Holly Guthery, Angela Powledge, Sonja Hornback and husband, Lee, and Kandice Cogburn and husband, Donal; great-grandchildren, Lorin Eaves, Colin Garcia, Kaley Garcia, Lane Powledge, Jade Guthery, Bruce Cogburn, Taiah Cogburn and Justin Hornback; sister, Ella Reeves and husband, Frank; brother-in-law, Bernard Keith and wife, Ann; numerous niece and nephews; and other extended family.
Pug was preceded in death by his wife, Vonnie "Coon" Guthery; parents, Roy and Nanny Guthery; brothers, Buck Guthery and Rob Guthery; and sister, A.V. Guthery Seay.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Desdemona. Graveside services followed in Desdemona Cemetery.
