Cora Lee Chandler Merworth, 97, of De Leon, passed from this life and met her Lord and Savior July 31, 2021. She was born February 4, 1924, in Roscoe, Texas to Wiley P. Alexander and Mary Ocie (Hendrix) Alexander. Cora Lee married Fred Neely Merworth November 3, 1991.

Cora Lee's family moved to the De Leon area in 1934. For over thirty-five years she was employed for the De Leon Hospital as the Medical Records Manager. She was a member of St. Joe Baptist Church and also attended Fair Haven Baptist Church. Cora Lee enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and all arts and crafts. She loved dancing and would seize the opportunity to dance anytime it arose. Her family was her greatest joy in life, and she cherished any time she could spend with them. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother, and loyal friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her grandson, Derrik Adams; granddaughter, Mischa Chandler;  daughter-in-law, Linda Chandler; son-in-law, Ray Sanders; stepsons, Bodie Merworth and Joe Merworth; nieces, Schylon Boyd and Paula Searcey; and other extended family.

Cora Lee has been reunited with her husband, Fred Neely Merworth; daughter, Janet Sanders; son, Wiley A. Chandler; grandson, Michael J. Chandler; father, Wiley P. Alexander; mother, Mary Ocie Alexander; and sister, Marie Garrett.

Funeral services celebrating Cora Lee's life were held Friday, August 6, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Kenneth Wilson officiating. Graveside committal followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Derrik Adams, B.J. Merworth, Joe Merworth, Paul Bishop, Robert Webb, and Dennis Searcey.
