Daniel Reil Vera was born in Devine, Texas on February 11, 1944 to Ysac and Madeleine Vera. He passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016, with his family by his side.
Dan moved to De Leon in the early 1950's where he met and married his wife Connie. He worked several years at the De Leon and Gorman peanut mills, the brick yard and mobile home transport. He was also a farm hand, truck driver, mechanic and welder. Dan took great pride in having a well-manicured lawn and loved working on lawn mowers. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially at holidays when desserts were plentiful. Pecan pie was his favorite at Christmas.
Dan had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories. Often, he would laugh so much while telling his stories, you could hardly understand him. He had such an infectious laugh anyone hearing him would laugh too, regardless of the story. He was quick witted and had a comeback for everything. There are no words to describe how much he loved his family and how deeply they loved him. He will be missed beyond measure.
He leaves behind a loving legacy in his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Connie Vera; son, Daniel Vera, Jr., and wife, Gretchen; daughters, Julie Roy and husband, B.J., and Tammy Floyd and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Payton Floyd, Katelyn Rose Vera and Madelyn Grace Vera; sister, Linda Rodriguez; brothers, John Vera, Frank Vera and wife, Mary, George Vera and wife, Millie, and Rick Vera and wife, Sheri; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Dan has been reunited with his parents, Ysac and Madeleine Vera; sisters, Mary, Angie, Virginia and Isabel; and brothers, Eugene and Tony.
Dan knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. His favorite Bible verse was "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13). We are all better for having known Dan and we thank the Lord for the time we had with him. Now, he is with his Savior. No more tears, no more pain. He waits for us and we will see him again.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Munter and Adonna Otwell officiating. Graveside services will follow in De Leon Cemetery.
The Vera family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
