In Loving Memory of Edith Darlene Setzler Morris

Edith Darlene Setzler Morris, lovingly known as "Darlene," passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on January 7, 1940, in Gorman, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Mernavee Fuller Setzler and Arvil Setzler.

Darlene is survived by her son, Donnie Lee Morris; her sister, Boba Lamb; and her cherished grandchildren: Sage Henshaw Wald, Levi Henshaw, Paige Morris Lomax, Macy Henshaw, and Holden Morris. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Wakely Henshaw, Falon Lusty, Kynlee Morris, Mack Lomax, Miriam Wald, Haygen Morris, Lincoln Lomax, Everly Henshaw, and Parklynn Morris.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mernavee and Arvil Setzler; her husband, Harold Lee "Jake" Morris; her daughter, Joy Morris Henshaw; and her brother-in-law, Bill Lamb.

In her youth, Darlene thrived in the close-knit community of De Leon, Texas, where she enjoyed volleyball, basketball, and other activities. A 1958 graduate of De Leon High School, she moved to Fort Worth to begin her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

On February 14,1959, Darlene married Harold Lee "Jake" Morris, the love of her life. Together, they shared a passion for traveling to Las Vegas and dancing. Darlene later worked for many years at Birdsong Peanut Company in Gorman, Texas, forming lifelong friendships with her colleagues.

Darlene and Jake raised two children, Donnie and Joy. As a grandmother, she created unforgettable memories by organizing "Cousin Trips" every summer. These trips were filled with activities that encouraged character-building, crafting, dining out, shopping, and mini-golf adventures in Fort Worth.

Christmas was Darlene's favorite time of year. She transformed her home into a warm, festive haven filled with love, making the holiday season truly magical for her family.

An accomplished and meticulous oil painter, Darlene captured family homes, rustic barns, scenic landscapes, and local landmarks with her brush. Her family treasures these works, and a selection of her paintings will be donated to the De Leon Historical Society to honor her legacy.

Darlene will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and "Momma D." Her creativity, fun-loving spirit, and boundless love for her family will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Funeral services celebrating Darlene's life were held Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Joe Baptist Church in De Leon, Texas, with Brother Matt Morton officiating. Interment followed in Oliver Springs Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Levi Henshaw, Holden Morris, Derek Wald, Jed Lomax, Jacob Lusty, and Bryan Morris. Butch Morris was an honorary pallbearer.  The family kindly requests donations be made to Oliver Springs Cemetery or the De Leon Historical Society.

Darlene's life was a masterpiece, much like her paintings—full of vibrant colors, rich stories, and enduring beauty. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
