It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diana Barnes, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and esteemed member of the medical community. Born on June 19, 1945, in Grayson County, Texas, Diana was the beloved daughter of Betty Jo Barnes and Robert Travis Barnes.

Diana spent her childhood in De Leon, Texas, where she forged lasting friendships and laid the foundation for a remarkable life of service. She graduated from De Leon High School in 1963, paving the way for her journey into the noble field of nursing, a profession that would become her lifelong passion and true calling.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, Diana's commitment to excellence led her to pursue a Master's Degree of Public Health from UTHC - Houston/San Antonio Campus. Her educational achievements marked the beginning of a long and distinguished career in nursing, characterized by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.

Diana's journey in the medical field spanned from 1966 until her well-deserved retirement in 2010, during which she held prominent roles as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and hemo-dialysis primary care manager. Notably, her service extended to the United States Air Force Reserve, where she rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1992 after two decades of meritorious service. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Diana was awarded the prestigious Meritorious Service Award from the USAF in 1976.

Throughout her illustrious career, Diana's writing graced numerous medical publications and presentations, solidifying her status as a respected authority in the field. Her memberships in various professional organizations underscored her commitment to staying at the forefront of medical advancements.

Beyond her professional achievements, Diana was a compassionate soul who cherished her family and furry companions. She lived her life in the service of others, supporting humanitarian and animal welfare causes and placing the needs of others before her own. Her selflessness and generosity touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Diana Barnes leaves behind a legacy of excellence, compassion, and devotion to humanity. She is survived by her sister and caregiver, Kaye (Barnes) Ward, brother Travis Barnes and family, and her beloved nieces and nephews. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life of a woman who dedicated herself to making the world a better place. May her memory continue to inspire us all to live with purpose, kindness, and a spirit of service.
