Dixie Merle
Pack
Sep 7, 1932 — Sep 24, 2024
Dixie Merle Shugart Pack was born in Gorman on Sept 7, 1932, to Amasa Shugart and Emma Woodall Shugart. She passed peacefully from this life Sept 24, 2024, in De Leon at the age of 92 years.
Dixie married Richard (Rim) Pack on December 5, 1948, in Eastland County. They had three children, Phillip Gene, Lelan Ray, and Vivian Lee. Rim and Dixie lived near Desdemona where they farmed peanuts and raised cattle until Rim's death in 1985. They had many friends and enjoyed lots of happy times getting together for cards and 42.
Dixie was proud of her beauty shop and had a wide circle of ladies whose hair she did for many years. She was a wonderful cook and always enjoyed working hard, especially in the fall when it was time to sew peanut sacks.
Dixie was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Desdemona and in De Leon in later years. She will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones. The family is grateful for her wonderful caregivers at De Leon Nursing and Rehab where she spent the last years of her life.
She is survived by her son, Lelan Pack; daughter, Vivian Pack Menzel (David); granddaughters, Katie Pack, Kelie Kageler, Kristen Hardin, and Kelsey Menzel (Mike); and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lonabelle English; and other extended family members. Dixie was preceded by her husband, Rim Pack; son, Phillip Pack; five sisters, one brother, and her parents.
Graveside funeral services celebrating Dixie's life were held September 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in Desdemona Cemetery with Minister Rick Smitherman officiating. Serving as pallbearers were David Moore, Gerald VanZandt, Brian Sherrard, Benji Nabors, Mike Derrick, and David Menzel.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Dixie's memory to the Desdemona Activity Center (PO Box 2, Desdemona, Texas 76445) or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
