Obituary

Don Edward Brown, 82 years old, peacefully passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020, with his loving family by his side. He was born October 18, 1937, in Victor, Texas to Ernest J. Brown and Zeviah E. Newton Brown. Don married his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia Ann Morris, on February 15, 1958, in De Leon at St. Joe Baptist Church.

Don lived in De Leon most all of his life, other than when he proudly served in the United States Army and lived in Odessa following his honorable discharge. In his civilian life Don was a talented carpenter. That trade flowed over into his personal life and he enjoyed wood working and building furniture in his spare time. He and Patricia moved back home to De Leon in 1996 to spend their retirement years. They were long-time active members of St. Joe Baptist Church and they deeply loved their church family. Both Don and Patricia could almost always be found serving on various church ministries and volunteering their time to help others in need. Don especially loved cooking briskets and other meats for the bereavement meal committee at St. Joe Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He and Patricia also loved visiting the nursing home and playing bingo with the residents and singing at the De Leon Senior Citizens. Don never had idle hands and was always busy doing for others and that gave him great joy in life. Don's life was well lived on earth and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving Don are his son, Rhet Morris Brown of Austin; daughter, Dona Rene Gilder and husband, Terry, of De Leon; granddaughter, Cambri Rene Massie and husband, Adam, of Killeen; brother, Wayne Brown and wife, Darlene; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Don has been reunited with his loving wife, Patricia; parents, Ernest and Zeviah; brothers, Delbert and Raymond; sisters, Evelyn Bailey and Lethia Jane Brown.

Graveside memorial services were held Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. in Victor Cemetery with Brother Matt Morton officiating. Don was laid to rest beside his wife Patricia on their 62nd wedding anniversary.
