Obituary

Doris Jean Cadenhead Montgomery, 87, a lifelong resident of De Leon, Texas passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020. She was currently residing in the De Leon Nursing Home.

Doris Jean Cadenhead Montgomery was born July 27, 1933, having turned 87 in July. Her parents were Euzelia and William Cadenhead of De Leon. She was a 1951 graduate of De Leon High School. Doris was a devoted homemaker and caregiver. She had remained on the Cadenhead family farm, where she was born, throughout her lifetime. Doris was a member of St. Joe Baptist Church, De Leon. She was involved in the VFW activities with her husband, Lawrence, a decorated veteran. Doris was married to Lawrence (Junior) Montgomery on July 18, 1974 until his passing in 2014.

Her love for family and friends was admirable. She never forgot a special occasion or the birthday of anyone she knew. Doris loved to embroider and always had a set of cup towels waiting for those who visited. Her great love was to be outside, working on the farm and caring for the animals. An animal was never turned away and was always given a name.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence (Junior) Montgomery; grandparents, James C. Cadenhead, Rosa Cadenhead, Boliver Gray and Etta Lee Tate Gray; brother, Wayne Cadenhead; mother and father, Euzelia Gray Cadenhead and William Cadenhead; beloved sister, Joy Morton and husband, Jack; and nephew, Joel Morton.

She is survived by nephew, Jeff Morton (Jana); niece, Kelly Morton; eight Morton great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; and cousins, James Cadenhead and Phyllis (Jim) Ayotte.

The family's greatest appreciation to James Cadenhead, Jeff and Jana Morton, Kelly Morton, Valarie and Jimmy Cadenhead for their loving care these past years. Our heartfelt thank you to Dale Bradford, friend and caregiver, for his numerous years of devotion. Our extended thank you to the caregivers of De Leon Nursing Home and to Hospice caregivers for your daily commitment.

Funeral services celebrating Doris' life were held Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Chaplain Weldon Branham officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Morton, Ty Morton, Trent Morton, Greg Rosier, Brett Burnett and Jimmy Cadenhead. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the De Leon Veteran's Memorial Wall.

Doris was loved by all who knew her. You will be missed…We love you, your family.
