Obituary

Dorothy Ann Smetak Wilkerson, 81, of Proctor, Texas passed peacefully from this life on February 14, 2025. She was born August 14, 1943, in Marble Falls, Texas to Frank Smetak and Rosa Grones Smetak.

Dorothy was raised in Fort Stockton, Texas and married her loving husband of sixty-five years, Jack Wilkerson, on August 15, 1959, in Fort Stockton. They lived most of their younger adult years in West Texas before moving to Proctor. They owned and operated Proctor Grocery for over 25 years until their retirement. Dorothy was active in all areas of running the store from customer service to bookkeeping. She and Jack felt a strong connection to the Proctor community and built many wonderful relationships by faithfully and consistently serving the public. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, playing 42, RVing, and spending time at the lake with family and friends. She was a selfless mother and loved supporting her kids in all their endeavors through the years that ranged from sports and school events to motocross racing. Dorothy loved the Lord and always showed kindness toward others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Wilkerson; sons, Doug Wilkerson and wife, Debbie; Dr. Michael Keith Wilkerson and wife, Lacy; daughter, Tonya Bernard and husband, Jesse; grandchildren, Josh and Jordan, Brittaney, Braxton, Avery, Creighton, and Jayla; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Blakely, and Blaze; brother, Rudolph Smetak; sisters, Frances Schultz, and Donna Verette and husband, Sidney; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, AJ, Paul, Ben, Dan, Charlie, Frank Jr., and Ernest; and sisters, Estelle, Margie, Rosie, Lillie, and Rudy.

Graveside committal services celebrating Dorothy's life were held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Proctor Cemetery, Proctor, Texas with Pastor Ken Lunsford officiating.
