Eduardo "Cowboy" Acosta Alvarez, 53, of De Leon, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015, in Hico. He was the first born of thirteen children to Zenon Alvarez and Leonor Acosta Alvarez in San Louis Potosi, Mexico. Cowboy married Sylvia Garcia in Comanche County.

Cowboy was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in De Leon. He worked as an assistant veterinarian and dairyman at Horizon Dairy for over ten years. He was a dedicated and hardworking employee and he loved his job. Cowboy was full of life and enjoyed every day. He loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed cooking for people and being around animals. His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved spending time with his family and his friends.


He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sylvia Garcia Alvarez; sons, Eric Garcia and Miteria Puentes, and Daniel Garcia and wife, Consuelo; daughters, Monica Martinez and husband, Ines, and Sylvia Michelle Alvarez; mother, Leonor Acosta Alvarez; grandchildren, Ismael Garcia, Destiny Garcia, Brenda Garcia, Louis Garcia, Lexis Garcia, Delia Martinez, Dominic Garcia, Erica Garcia, Idaly Martinez, Johnathon Garcia, Jayden Bob and Jeffrey Lane Garcia; sisters, Martina Alvarez, Maria Alvarez, Adela Alvarez, Hipolita Alvarez; brothers, Juan Alvarez, Juan Alvarez, Felipe Alvarez, Porfirio Alvarez, Lorenzo Alvarez, Francisco Alvarez and Fermin Alvarez; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family; and many friends. Cowboy was preceded in death by his father, Zenon Alvarez and grandson, Jordan Cornell Bob.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Rojelio Gomez, Randy Wright, Ernesto Gaspar Acosta, Johnny Reyna, Juan Alvarez, Juan Alvarez, Francisco Alvarez and Fermin Alvarez.
