Eldena (Dena) Marie Burks Bingham was called to her heavenly home on January 5, 2025. Dena was born on January 18, 1942, in Comanche, Texas to Gaylord Burks and Ollie Guill Burks.
She graduated Comanche High School, and then attended Southern Bible College in Houston, Texas. There she met and married David Halcomb. They were married for a total of 33 years and together had three children.
At the age of 40, Dena attended Navarro College and earned a degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked in several different nursing homes and cared for the elderly in their homes.
At 62, Dena married Gene Bingham and they made their home in De Leon, Texas. They celebrated their 20th Anniversary in October of 2024.
Preceding Dena in death was her father, Gaylord Burks; mother, Ollie Burks; sister, Brenda Patterson; brother, Richard Burks; niece, Crystal McGinn; and nephew, Dustin McGinn.
She is survived by her husband, Gene, and their children: Lisa Halcomb Brummett and husband, Doyle, Michael Halcomb and wife, Joan, Lori Halcomb Legan and husband, Andy, Prissy Bingham Patterson and husband, Rickey, Jason Bingham and wife, Celena, and Trina Bingham; grandchildren: Devin McDonald, Courtney Brummett Bagwell and husband, James, Derek Halcomb, Christopher Brummett and wife, Natasha, Shaye Halcomb and wife, Michaela; Cora Halcomb; Bryce Patterson and fiancé, Jaidyn Moyer, Kendrick Patterson, Jacob Bingham, Kaci Bingham Jones, Savanna Bingham, Remi Bingham, Kayla Legan, Drew Legan, Luci Legan; great-grandchildren: Alexandria Bagwell, Elijah Bagwell, Connor Jones, Courtlynn Jones, Charleigh Jones, Layla Bingham, and Jameson Bingham; and siblings: Amy Burks, Jennifer Wilder, and Bobby Burks.
Dena was all about her family, always wanting them with her. She loved her Lord, worshipping Him, listening to Southern Gospel Music, listening to her audio books and working in her garden. We will miss her smile, her hugs and her caring soul.
Dena's celebration of life was held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Munter officiating. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche. Serving as pallbearers were Andy Legan, Doyle Brummett, Christopher Brummett, Jason Bingham, Barrett Payne, and Dwight Matthews.
