Elizabeth Rodgers Gomez, 91, of De Leon, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013, at De Leon Nursing and Rehab.
She was born February 23, 1922 in Eden, Texas to Alex and Mary Rodgers. Elizabeth married Isabel "Bill" Gomez on May 26, 1940 in Eden, Texas.
Elizabeth was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in De Leon. She worked for the De Leon Hospital as a nursing aide for 8 years and for the De Leon Nursing Home for 3 years. Elizabeth was also a housekeeper for many families in the De Leon Community for many years.
She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing games, and sewing. She always enjoyed listening to live music at the nursing home and being around people. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed her time with them.
She is survived by her sons, Ernest Gomez and wife, Barbara, and Robert Gomez; daughters, Josie Martinez and husband, Joe, and Betty Williams and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Ernestine Gonzalez and husband, Gonzalo, Jane Martinez, Emma Gonzales and husband, Ernest, Marilyn Harbor and husband, Steve, Rosalinda Torres, Ernest Gomez Jr., Ernest Escamilla III and wife, Becky, and Michelle Perez and husband, Tony; 18 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
Elizabeth has gone home to be with her Lord and to join her husband, Bill Gomez; parents; and daughter, Ernestine Gomez.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of De Leon. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery. Father McNamara officiated the services.
