Obituary

Erma Lee (Rhea) Owen, 85, met her Lord and Savior November 29, 2020. She was born June 11, 1935, in Red River County, Texas to Oval and Mary Rhea. Erma married her loving husband of 62 years, H.E. Owen, May 24, 1954, in Dallas, Texas. H.E. preceded Erma in 2017.

H.E. and Erma moved to De Leon from Irving in August 2016 to be near their family. They were members of First Baptist Church of De Leon. Erma was a devoted and loving homemaker for her family. Outside the home, she was employed as an office assistant in the retail industry for many years. Erma enjoyed many hobbies, but she was especially fond of all sports. She loved the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks. Erma also enjoyed cross stitching and Sudoku. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was incredibly involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even keeping her young great-grandchildren whenever she could up until very recently. She was a devoted wife, a loving and attentive mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother, and a joy to all that knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Erma is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Morton and husband, Lloyd; grandchildren, Matthew Morton and wife, Cheri, and Tamara Vineyard and husband, Richie; great-grandchildren, Owen Morton, Grayson Morton, Tucker Morton and Magnolia Vineyard; brother, David Rhea;  numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Erma was preceded in death by her husband, H.E.; parents, Oval and Mary Rhea; and brothers, Robert Rhea, CB Rhea, Ricky Rhea, and James Rhea.

Funeral services celebrating Erma's life were held Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at De Leon First Baptist Church with Brother Daniel Harper officiating. Erma was laid to rest in De Leon Cemetery next to H.E. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Sherrard, Matthew Morton, Richie Vineyard, Gary Rhea, Lonnie Massey, Kobe Hunter and Justin Rhea.
