Freda Riggs Nabers, 85, passed peacefully from this life April 25, 2024. She was born December 6, 1938, in Gorman, Texas, to A.F. and Elva Lewis. Freda married James Riggs on December 24, 1955, in Desdemona, Texas. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 61 years, and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2017. Freda married Leroy Nabers on October 13, 2019, in Springtown, Texas.
Freda was raised in Desdemona and lived most of her life there. The past several years she resided in Springtown. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a current member of GracePointe Church in Springtown. Freda worked in the banking industry beginning her career at Gorman Bank in 1973 until 1979. She then went to work for Dublin National Bank from 1979 until 1983. In 1983, she made one final move to Farmers and Merchants Bank in De Leon where she would be employed until her retirement in 2013. She was always a friendly face to her many customers, and she loved the relationships she built throughout her career. Freda was a devoted homemaker for her family. She was a wonderful cook and especially loved to bake. She was famous for her homemade hot rolls and cinnamon rolls. She always enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. Freda had a special love of birds, specifically her chickens and pet white doves. She loved tending to her cattle and was physically a hard worker. Freda was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, a special neighbor, and a loyal friend to so many. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Nabers; son, Stephen Riggs and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Callie Ahuja and husband, Rajan, Mica Tomlinson and husband, Chris, Jordan Lopez and husband, Justin, Rachel Riggs and fiancée, Alex Achorn, Aaron Riggs and fiancée, Claire Lowry, and Matthew Bibby; great-grandchildren, Arabella Riggs, Avinash Ahuja, Liam Tomlinson and Ben Tomlinson; daughters-in-law, Mary Riggs and Tracy Riggs; son-in-law, Danny Bibby; sister, Helen Grimshaw and husband, Jay; step-children, Kathy Lunsford and husband, Keith, Debbie Whiteman and husband, Pat, and Jim Nabers and wife, Denise; a host of nephews and nieces; and other extended family.
Freda was preceded in death by her husband, James Riggs; parents, A.F. and Elva Lewis; son, Michael Riggs; daughter, Sherry Riggs Bibby; grandson, James Allen Bibby; brothers, Kenneth Lewis and Harold Lewis; and sister, Geneva Foreman.
Graveside services were held Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Howard Cemetery with Brother Ben McCleery and Brother Tim McKeown officiating. Brother Bob Becker led the congregational singing.
