Freda
Vanzandt
Jun 27, 1946 — Aug 11, 2020
Freda Faye VanZandt was welcomed into Heaven on August 11, 2020. During her 74 years, she was always surrounded by an abundance of love; she was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Freda was the only child of Don and Nathalie Loudermilk and she was the apple of her Daddy's eye. Born on June 27, 1946 in Gorman, TX, Freda was raised in Downing, TX, spent all of her life as a homemaker, a large part of her life as the Secretary for De Leon High School where she touched the lives of many students. She could bake a delicious masterpiece with only a few ingredients, had a collectors appreciation for antiques, and a devotion to her family that was unmatched.
Even at a young age, it was apparent that Freda's heart was filled with extraordinary beauty; she naturally exuded kindness which went hand in hand with her natural beauty. She was even crowned Ms. DeLeon and voted Woman of the Year. Gerald VanZandt was immediately drawn to Freda and the two of them were side by side for the last 58 years. Not only did Gerald love Freda, but so did his family. Gerald's younger sister, Terri VanZandt, also developed a special bond with Freda that only sisters have.
Her boys, Gerald, Bart, Bubba, Dusty, Brit, and Carter were the delight of her life. She made sure to do whatever she could to make them happy including, but not limited to, making special desserts, coming to stay for a week to help out when her great grands were born, dog-sitting, taking trips with them, and spending countless hours on the phone with them sharing her life advice. She was the most kind hearted woman and would do anything for anyone who asked, and her family was her top priority.
Freda was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 Woman; she was virtuous and had an incredible joy for life. For Freda, organizing, planning, and cooking for the annual San Saba Family camping trip was almost as wonderful as all the memories created there over the last 50 years. She also enjoyed traveling with friends, spending time with her grands and great grands, and in spite of Gerald's clothing choices, she even loved going on cruises with him.
She also had a love for animals; she raised donkeys, cows, bunnies, and even allowed her grandson Dustin to have a pet iguana named Lizzy. Dogs were her favorite, but her last one, Taupie was the clear winner and the only dog who she made eggs for every morning and let sleep in her bed.
While she is having a joyful reunion with family and friends she hasn't seen in quite some time, we celebrate her life and her remarkable legacy.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald VanZandt, her sons and their wives, Bart & Cindy VanZandt, Bubba & Marki VanZandt, her grandsons and their wives, Dustin & Allie VanZandt, Brit & Alyssa VanZandt, her granddaughter, Baily VanZandt, and her great grandchildren, Carter Dwaine, Sadie Rose, Shiloh Faye, Essie Jo, and Sloan Emilee VanZandt.
