Obituary

H.E. (Buckshot) Lewis

November 7, 1936 - December 20, 2018

Harold Lewis was born in Gorman Texas to A.F. & Elva Lewis. In high school, Harold was a talented athlete in both basketball and baseball. He once tried out as a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball team. The only thing that prevented him from signing, was being a junior in high school at the time. After graduating Desdemona High School, he owned a gas station in Desdemona. It was then that he met and married the love of his life, Betty Ann Holub, on October 11, 1961.

Harold was a proud veteran of the US Army. After serving in the Army, he and Betty Ann lived in Weatherford while he worked at General Dynamics. He was also maintaining a farm at the time. During his years at G.D., he worked on the F-111 fighter bomber project and the F-16 fighter jet project. His love was farming and ranching, so they moved back home to Desdemona in 1971, where he farmed peanuts, raised a family and also raised cattle until his passing. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just walking through his pastures looking at the cows. But his main joy in the later years of his life was being around his grandkids. He was a devoted husband, father, Papa, father-in-law, and friend to many.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Ann, his parents, and a brother Kenneth. He is survived by his three sons, Harold Dean and wife Cindy, Kyle and wife Samantha, Gerald and wife Shanna, and one daughter Carol Mahan and husband Josh . Grandchildren, Rebecca, Allison, Madilyn, Avery, Kasey, Gage, Anyssa and Gunner, and great grandchildren Braden & Lyla. Harold is also survived by sisters, Freda Riggs, Helen Grimshaw, & Geneva Foreman, along with several nieces and nephews.

Harold was a long time donor to blood banks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Meek or Carter Blood Banks, in his memory.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 23, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Desdemona First Baptist Church with Brother Eric Nowak and Brother Daniel Harper officiating. Harold was laid to rest in Desdemona Cemetery next to his wife, Betty Ann.
