H.E. Owen, 83, of De Leon and formerly of Irving, went home to his Lord and Savior April 25, 2017.
He was born July 11, 1933, in Dallas to Walter Owen and Rosa Douglas Owen. H.E. married his loving wife of 62 years, Erma Lee Rhea, May 24, 1954, in Dallas, Texas.
H.E. and Erma moved to De Leon from Irving in August 2016 to be near their family. They are members of First Baptist Church of De Leon. H.E. retired from the retail industry as a manager after many decades. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking; from Barbie houses and Tinker Toys to frames and furniture.
H.E. took a special pleasure in hearing about the day-to-day life of those he encountered whether new acquaintance or old friend. He took great pride in his family and enjoyed the special moments and celebrations of those he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Erma Lee Owen; daughter, Brenda L. Morton and husband, Lloyd; grandchildren, Matthew Morton and wife, Cheri, and Tamara Vineyard & husband, Richie; great-grandchildren, Owen Morton, Grayson Morton and Tucker Morton; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. H.E. was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rosa Owen; and five sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at De Leon First Baptist Church with Brother Daniel Harper officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery.
