Ingrid Royal Lindsey, 78, of De Leon, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in her home. She was born January 31, 1939, in Albany, N.Y., to Charles and Evelyn Royal.
Ingrid was raised in New York spending most of her childhood in the small town of Worcester. After graduating from high school Ingrid moved to Texas to attend North Texas State University. It was there that she met her future husband who, in telling the story of how he asked her out on their first date, said he didn't have her phone number or address but he was so intent on asking her out that he waited for her all day in front of the campus bookstore hoping to run into her, which he did and so began the rest of their life together. Ingrid married William (Bill) Marlin Lindsey on November 19, 1960 in Dallas, Texas. In 1965 they moved to De Leon where they raised their family and lived the rest of their lives.
Ingrid was a long-time faithful member of De Leon First United Methodist Church where she was involved in various programs throughout the years from United Methodist Women, Jump Start, VBS, teaching Sunday school and leading the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Wherever there was a need within the church, she was always one of the first to volunteer to help. Ingrid attended and served at the Senior Citizen Center, whether it be serving the meals, counting money or offering rides to others so they too could enjoy the good food and fellowship. Ingrid was also a long-time member of the De Leon Study Club and was active on various public service committees throughout the years, including the De Leon Chamber of Commerce and the Beautification Committee. She also volunteered at the Terrill Antique Car Museum. Ingrid loved playing Bunco and chicken foot and rarely turned down an invitation to a party or wedding or other social function as she was always happy to celebrate life with others. She loved to read and thoroughly enjoyed participating in book club. She loved to travel and had an adventurous spirit and was always ready for wherever life would take her. Ingrid loved learning and even though she put her education on hold to raise a family, after putting her children through college, Ingrid returned to school and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Tarleton State University.
Ingrid was a wonderful mother and grandmother who selflessly devoted her life to her family, always putting others ahead of herself and never asking for anything in return. She was very involved in her children's activities despite working full time at the tax office. She helped with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Blue Birds, spent many hours on 4-H projects and stock shows as well as helping build floats for the Peach & Melon parade for the various clubs she and her kids were involved in. Ingrid sincerely had a servant's heart and is most known for her generosity and happily helped anyone she could in any way she could. Whether it was giving someone a ride or taking in an orphaned or homeless animal, Ingrid could always be counted on to help.
She is survived by her sons, David Lindsey and wife, Kim, and Dirk Lindsey and wife, Tara; daughter, Laurie Lindsey Bardo and husband, Brett; grandchildren, Hannah Lindsey, Shane Lindsey, Sydnee Bohannan, Hope Lindsey and Faith Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Ellie Moore, Sawyer Bohannon and Arrisyn Lindsey; brother, Kennard Royal and wife, Judy; sister-in-law Janey Murdoch and husband, Leon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Ingrid has been reunited with her husband, William (Bill) Marlin Lindsey; son, Christopher Lindsey; grandchildren, Rachel, Madelyn and Yates Lindsey; and parents, Charles and Evelyn Royal.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at De Leon First United Methodist Church with Pastor John Woodard officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery.
