Jackie Wayne
Pounds
Jun 21, 1944 — May 12, 2025
Jackie Wayne Pounds, 80, of Duster, Texas passed peacefully from this life Monday, May 12, 2025, in Abilene. He was born June 21, 1944, in Gorman, Texas to Wendell Jackson Pounds and Lula Mae Warren Pounds. Jackie married his loving wife of sixty-one years, Ruby Cavitt Pounds, on March 14, 1964.
Jackie lived his entire life in the Duster community out on Pounds Hill. He attended school in De Leon and graduated with the De Leon Class of 1962. Jackie was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He never met a stranger and loved updating his many friends with his entertaining Facebook chatter. Jackie always had such a beautifully landscaped yard that he meticulously cared for. His best buddy, Jake, was never far from his side. He loved to grill and watch his two favorite baseball teams: the LA Dodgers and the Texas Rangers. Jackie was a devoted husband to Ruby. Before anything else, he made sure she was well taken care of and without any needs. Jackie was a loyal friend and neighbor, always doing for others as he was able. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and son. His family truly was the center of his life, and he loved them well. Jackie will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; son, Neil Pounds and wife, Laci; daughter, Janis Friend and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Dustin Wright, Wesley Beeman, Haven Pounds, Harli Pounds, Chris Friend, Jake Beeman, and Breanna Darnell; great-grandchildren, Jackson Wright, Jace Wright, Brailey Darnell, Blaze Darnell, and Brylan Darnell; best companion, Jake; and other extended family. Jackie has been reunited with his parents.
Funeral services celebrating Jackie's life were held May 15, 2025, at Nowlin Anders Funeral Chapel with Brother Clay Wheat officiating. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Wesley Beeman, Dustin Wright, Chris Friend, Randy Barnes, Keith Terry, and Jake Beeman. Honorary pallbearers were Marty Wyatt, Ernie Dollar, Phil Barnes, Rickey Koonce and Kaleb Nowlin.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Jackie.
