James O.
Davis
Jan 21, 1929 — Oct 30, 2024
James Oneal Davis, 95, passed peacefully from this life Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at his home in Granbury with his loving family by his side. He was born January 21, 1929, in Mooreland, Oklahoma to Charles Tilford Davis and Bonnie Ethel Moore Davis.
James was raised in De Leon and graduated from De Leon High School. He soon enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country from July 24, 1948 until July 19, 1952. While in active service, James was stationed on the USS Iowa BB-61 and the Destroyer USS Chevalier DDR 805. After the completion of his service, James settled in Hurst, Texas where he was employed with American Airlines for forty years, ultimately retiring on January 3, 1994.
James was blessed with two wonderful marriages. His first to his late wife, Lila Otwell Davis, for forty-four years. His second to his late wife and mother of his daughter, Cheyenne, Kimberly Blackwell Davis, for twelve years. He loved them both unconditionally. James enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, travelling, camping, and tinkering with things. He could fix just about anything needing repair. After retiring from American Airlines, James moved to Granbury to be close to the lake because fishing had become his one true last love. He was always his happiest while on the water. James also had a special love for animals, especially his best companion, his dog Sarge.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, doting grandfather, and special friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. James is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne Sharp and husband, Nick; grandchildren, Rayli Mathis and Olivia Sharp; brother, Kenneth Davis and wife, Kay; sisters, Martha Fuller and Shirley Smith and husband, Bennie; numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family. James was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bonnie Davis; wife, Lila; wife, Kimberly; sisters, Mary Whitely and Wanda Arlene Davis; and brothers, Robert Davis and Albert Davis.
Funeral services celebrating James' life were held Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Paul Winegeart officiating. Interment, with United States Navy Honors, followed in De Leon Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hood County Animal Shelter at 1550 Weatherford Hwy, Granbury, Texas 76048, in memory of James.
