James Elton Koonce, 85, of Comanche, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was born January 13, 1932, in Gorman on his family's peanut farm to James Newton Koonce and Ila Myrtis Robbins Koonce. James married his loving wife of 64 years, Beatrice Diane Reynolds, September 20, 1952, in Dublin.
James lived in Eastland County and Comanche County most all of his life. He proudly served in the United States Army in the Military Police during the Korean War. His military service took him to various places throughout the United States. In his civilian life, James was a farmer, rancher and electrician. He loved to raise cattle and care for his production. He worked as an electrician for Six Flags Over Texas for more than twenty years. In his later years, James enjoyed spending time outdoors and on his tractor. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, neighbor and friend. He will be missed by who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Koonce; daughter, Debra Lewis and husband, Clifford; son, Kevin Lee Koonce; granddaughter, Anna Diane Davis; great-granddaughter, MaKayla Dyanne Davis; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
James was preceded by his parents; and brother, Tommy Ray Koonce.
Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in Desdemona Cemetery with Pastor Rich Lows officiating.
