James "Mike" Phelps, 61, of De Leon, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at his home. Mike was born July 30, 1956, in Mt. Gilead, Ohio to Charles Horton Phelps and Gracie Virginia Farrish Phelps.

Mike moved to the De Leon community in 1978 and worked for IGA Grocery for twenty years and then was employed by Golden Oak Milling for more than twenty-five years. He also owned many rental properties throughout the area. Mike had many hobbies he enjoyed but he absolutely loved gardening. He would have a large bountiful garden each year. He would spend hours each day tilling, planting and harvesting his garden. Mike was a loving son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. Mike will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sister, Linda E. Phelps; brother, John Phelps; sister-in-law, Kathy Phelps; many nieces, nephews; and other extended family. Mike was preceded by his parents, Charles and Gracie Phelps; brother, Charles Phelps; and sister, Mary Gerth.
