Obituary

James Everett Upshaw, Sr., of Colorado City, Texas, formerly of Fort Worth and De Leon, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 1, 2014, at De Leon First Christian Church with Minister Matt Thackerson officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery.

James was born February 25, 1930, in De Leon, Texas to Samuel Reese and Roxie Upshaw. He graduated from De Leon High School in 1947 and married Margie Nell Land in 1950. James served in the United States Air Force before going to work as a draftsman at Texas Electric where he retired after 38 years. He proudly served many years in the Tabernacle Masonic Lodge and received the highest Golden Trowel Award. He enjoyed many years of serving our Lord as a minister to several churches. His favorite past times included singing, playing the guitar, painting and flying airplanes.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Margie Upshaw; two sisters, Lois Stephens of Crowley and Gloria Burnett of Everman; four children, Becky Dempsey and husband Bobby of Ranger, James Upshaw Jr. and wife Kathy of Graham, Mary Thackerson and husband Rex of Colorado City, and Penny Brittain and husband HD of Christoval; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family.

Pallbearers were JD Johnson, BK Dempsey, Jesse Upshaw, Joe Upshaw, Brandy Weeks, Brett Halfmann and Joshua Miller.
