Our dear friend, neighbor, and brother in Christ, Jerial Dwyett Wheeler, 83, of Sipe Springs, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 24, 2026, in Abilene, Texas.
Jerial was born on September 22, 1942, in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, to Cleve and Maydie Wheeler. He was one of twelve children—seven boys and five girls.
Jerial was a gifted storyteller. He delighted friends and family with tales from his years cowboying on ranches across Texas and of his time training exotic animals for the Texas Safari in Clifton, Texas. One of his favorite stories involved training zebras, a memory that never failed to bring a smile. His love for animals was evident throughout his life.
Jerial also had a deep love for people. He worked in education for a number of years, serving as a school bus driver and teaching shop and other vocational classes. In retirement, he spent much of his time at the De Leon Senior Citizens Center, where he enjoyed fellowship and looked for ways to help others. Whether delivering meals to those in need or lending a helping hand to anyone who asked, Jerial lived a life of kindness, generosity, and service.
Above all, Jerial loved the Lord. He was a faithful Christian, a true gentleman, a genuine cowboy, and a cherished friend whose warmth, compassion, and unforgettable stories touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends are invited to gather for visitation on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Jerial's life will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Randy Blackwell officiating. Graveside committal will follow at Sipe Springs Cemetery.
