Obituary

Jessie Mae Morton, 98, formerly of De Leon, went home to her Lord and Savior Friday, May 29, 2015, in Tyler, Texas.

She was born September 10, 1916, in Alhambre, California, to J.F. and O.T. Dyson Morris. Jessie Mae married Charles G. Morton, Sr.

Jessie Mae lived in the De Leon community her entire life other than from 1947 until 1967 when she and Charles lived in Burnet, Texas. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of De Leon where she was extremely dedicated to serving on the Harvest Festival committee for the church. Even at the remarkable age of 98, she was actively preparing material for hot pads to be made for the Harvest Festival. She retired from the retail industry after several decades of service. She enjoyed playing bridge and quilting. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She was especially proud of her family and will be immeasurably missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Charles G. Morton, Jr., and wife, Pamela Brooks Morton; grandchildren, Charles (Trey) G. Morton, III, and Brooks St. Clair Morton and wife, Kristin; great-grandchildren, Burke Anthony Morton, Sawyer Reed Morton, Ethan Ross Morton, J.D. Brooks Morton, and Wyatt Brooks Morton; nieces, Ann Maikell Estes and husband, Woody, and Terry Maikell Jarrett and husband, David; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family; and many loving friends.

Jessie Mae has been reunited with her husband, Charles G. Morton, Sr.; parents, J.F. and O.T. Morris; and sisters, Leona Maikell and Ivah Pearl Morris.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, De Leon, with Pastor Brooks St. Clair Morton and Rev. Judy Richmond officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Trey Morton, Hiram Smith, Woody Estes, Dyson Campbell, Gil Gilbert and James Morgan. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Cody Wales, Scott Lee Wales, David Oglesby and Troy Morris.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, attn.: Harvest Festival Fund, at 616 South Houston Street, De Leon, in memory of Jessie Mae.
