Obituary

Jimmie Rae Cogburn, 95, a lifelong resident of De Leon passed from this life and met her Lord and Savior December 31, 2021. She was born January 29, 1926, in De Leon to Jack Gooden and Irene Lillie Smith Gooden. Jimmie Rae married Ottis Jay Cogburn April 5, 1940, in De Leon.

Jimmie Rae was a long-time faithful member of De Leon Church of Christ (Hwy 6). She loved her church and her church family dearly. Her humble servant heart will forever resonate and shine brightly. She was a devoted and loving homemaker for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy in life. She loved growing and potting plants, flowers, and gardening. She raised chickens and delighted in watching her grandchildren run around in the backyard chasing them. Jimmie loved having a house full of family and visitors. She collected hundreds of Avon bottles throughout the years. Jimmie Rae was a loving wife and mother, special granny, and loyal friend to so many. She will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Williams; sons, Jackie Cogburn and Jim Cogburn and wife, Beverly; grandchildren, Toby Cogburn and wife, Christal, Freddy Williams, Ray Williams and wife, Darla, Sonja Scott and husband, Terry, Bill Williams and wife, Christie, Jason Cogburn and wife, Laurie, Starla Dyson and husband, Cord, Haley Cogburn, Shelby Sutton, Joey Wright and wife, Jonna, Jacobi Cogburn and husband, Ricky, and Stevie Daniel and husband, Kevin; twenty-two great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Hardwick and Bennie Lawson; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Jimmie Rae was preceded by her husband, Ottis Jay Cogburn; children, Charlene Strube, Frances Wright, Calvin Cogburn, and Scottie Cogburn; two grandchildren; parents; and numerous siblings.

Funeral services celebrating Jimmie Rae's wonderful life were held Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at De Leon Church of Christ (Hwy 6) with Minister Rick Smitherman officiating. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Freddy Williams, Ray Williams, Bill Williams, Joey Wright, Jason Cogburn, Zachary Cogburn and Tyler Cogburn.
