Jimmy Gail
Sides
Apr 24, 1938 — Mar 8, 2023
Jimmy Gail Sides, 84, a lifelong resident of De Leon, peacefully passed from this life at his home on March 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 24, 1938, in Gorman, Texas to L.L. (Pete) Sides and Lucy Scott Sides. Jimmy married his loving wife, Martha Stone, in 1965. Martha preceded him in death in 2009.
After Jimmy graduated De Leon High School, he joined the United States Navy. Upon completion of his service, he gladly returned home to the family farm and farmed from that day forward. He farmed peanuts, watermelon, cantaloupe, and any other crops he could rotate throughout the seasons. He loved his land, and the ability God blessed him with to harvest enough crop and produce to provide for his family. He also raised cattle for many decades. Being outdoors and working with his hands is what he enjoyed most. He loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting. Aside from farming, he was a licensed HAM Radio operator, a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed. For many years, he and Martha were members of St. Joe Baptist Church. Jimmy was a man of his word and was always quick to help a friend or neighbor in need. He was a loving husband and father, special granddad, and loyal friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Milly Gray and husband, Brad, and Melody Beach; granddaughters, Linzi McElfresh and husband, Brent, Whitney Beach and fiancé, Jose Lopez, and Callie Jo Beach; grandsons, Brady Gray, Erik Sides, and Zak Sides; great-grandsons, Kase McElfresh and Gray McElfresh; and other extended family. Jimmy has been reunited with his wife, Martha; daughter, Jenny Sides; son, Micah Sides; and parents, L.L. Pete and Lucy Sides.
Chapel funeral services were held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Jim Farley officiating. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery where Jimmy was laid to rest beside his wife, Martha. Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Sides, Mark Sides, Ernie Escamilla, Erik Sides, Zak Sides, and Brady Gray. Honorary pallbearers were Brad Gray, Brent McElfresh, and Jose Lopez.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the De Leon Senior Citizen Center at 133 N. Ballpark Way, De Leon or to the De Leon Food Pantry at PO Box 290, De Leon, in memory of Jimmy.
