Joseph Morton Rodgers, 89, of Pecan Plantation (Granbury), Texas, peacefully passed from this life January 24, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 2, 1933, in Lubbock, Texas to Johnie Robert Rodgers and Audie Orlean Snell. Joe married Helen Limbockhua on August 2, 1982.
Joe was raised in Cleburne, Texas, and graduated from Cleburne High School in 1951. He attended Texas Tech and SMU after high school. Joe proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1954 as a Seabee (Naval Construction Battalion). After completion of his military service, in 1959 Joe's first job was with Ling Temco Vought, Dallas as a Design Engineer. In 1961 he went to work for Shell Oil Company as a Senior Draftsman and began taking classes in Engineering. In 1967, Joe took a position with The Offshore Company/Sonat Offshore/Transocean as a Chief Draftsman and was promoted to Construction Manager, managed the construction and inspection team for the 1 st semi-submersible in Spain, Singapore, Norway, and Japan from 1972 thru 1986. 1 jack-up & 1 semi-submersible in Japan, 2 jack-ups in Singapore, 1 Drillship in Avondale, USA, and completed numerous dry dockings, and major upgrades. He was extensively involved in designing and building state-of-the-art oil rigs around the world and later served as a consultant.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed many hobbies. He had a lifelong love of fast cars and motorcycles. He and his brother would find old automobiles and planes and rebuild/restore them to pristine condition. Joe loved to build just about anything with his hands. His family considered him a master of all trades with a unique ability to problem solve and always find a solution. Joe also loved learning about all types of guns and was an active member of the NRA. He was a loyal friend to many, a devoted husband to Helen, a loving father to his children, and a special grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed beyond measure by his family, many colleagues, and numerous special friends.
Joe has been reunited with his parents, Johnie and Audie Rodgers; son, Bick Rodgers; brothers, Horace and G.W.; sisters, Martha and Johnnie Robert; and his nephew, Johnny Michael Rodgers.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Greg Rodgers, Joel Rodgers and wife, Maufen, and Ross Rodgers and wife, Phoebe; daughter, Verree Rodgers; daughter-in-law, Linh Le; grandchildren, Amberle Bell, Dale Owings, Alizabeth Rodgers, Sarah Rodgers, Zaylee Rodgers, and Joey Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Maddy Bell, Keegan Bell, Carlie Owings and Claire Owings; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended families.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Nowlin Anders Funeral Chapel with Brother Burt Atkins officiating. Interment, with United States Navy Honors, followed in De Leon Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans Organization ( www.dav.org ) or Wounded Warrior Project ( www.woundedwarriorproject.org ).
