John W. Owens, 90, a resident of Centerville, La., and former resident of De Leon, Tx. died Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Franklin Foundation Hospital in La. He was born in Duster, Texas on December 13, 1925.
He is survived by his children, Joyce Byrd of Kingwood, Tx., Pamela Naquin and husband, Glenn, of Baldwin, La., Diana Morrison and husband, Johnny, of Texarkana, Tx., and John Owens II and wife, Julie, of Centerville, La. He has 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, June Voorhies of Andrews, Tx.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Clista Owens; his parents, Theodore and Maggie Owens; brothers, Albert and Theodore Owens; sisters, Thelma Owens, Winnie Voorhies, and Vera Spruill.
John loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to fish and garden and was an avid coin collector. He loved his church family and serving his church. He worked at Cabot Corporation for 37 years.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, De Leon. John was laid to rest in De Leon Cemetery.
