John E. Phelps, 71, of De Leon, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at De Leon Nursing and Rehab. He was born June 22, 1950, to Charles E. Phelps and Gracie V. Farrish Phelps.

John moved to the De Leon area in 1977 and lived in the area the remainder of his life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and fishing. He loved all of nature and especially trees. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his son, John Hooper; sister, Linda Phelps; sister-in-law, Kathy Phelps; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Phelps and Mike Phelps; and one sister, Mary Gerth.

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in Round Grove Cemetery with Brother Harold Higginbotham officiating.
