Josephine Gomez Martinez, 75, of De Leon, went home to her Lord and Savior Friday, March 9, 2018, with her loving family by her side. Josephine was born December 11, 1942, in Morton, Texas to Isabel (Bill) Gomez and Elizabeth Rodgers Gomez. Josephine married the love of her life, Joe B. Martinez, on July 3, 1960 in Eden, Texas.
Josephine was a long-time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, De Leon. She loved her church family as her own. She retired from the De Leon Hospital after thirty-two years of dedicated service. Josephine loved her job at the hospital and enjoyed all of the friendships she made there. Josephine loved watching golf, especially Tiger Woods. She enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. One of Josephine's favorite occasions was Easter. She would host large family gatherings and could easily prepare a meal to feed one hundred family members and friends. Josephine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, neighbor and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived her devoted husband, Joe B. Martinez; daughters, Ernestine Gonzalez and husband, Gonzalo, Jane Garcia, Emma Gonzales and husband, Ernest, and Marilyn Harbour and husband, Steve; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; siblings, Ernest Gomez, Betty Williams, and Robert Gomez; other extended family; and many loving friends.
Josephine was preceded by her parents, Bill and Elizabeth Gomez; sister, Ernestine Gomez; great-grandson, Timothy T. Leal; and Jane's husband, Israel Garcia.
Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 12, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, De Leon. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Leal, Rosendo Perez Jr., Kastino Leal, Eddie Alvarado Jr., Alex Gonzales, Ernest Escamilla, Eric K. Gonzalez, Rocky Warne and Marco A. Gonzalez.
