June Lee Clements Carruth passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. She was born in Meadow, Texas on June 8, 1924 to William and Bessie Clements. June's mother passed away when she was only five months of age. She then went to live with her grandmother, Letha Clements, where she remained until she graduated from high school. June graduated from De Leon High School in 1942. She later married W. L. "Billy" Carruth, a fellow classmate, on April 16, 1946 in Fort Worth, Texas.
A daughter, Susan Wayne, was born in 1947. This was followed by Johnny Bob born in 1948 and Jimmy Donald in 1952. June and Billy were involved in the farming/ranching business for over 60 years. They maintained an abiding legacy in the heritage of the family farm which was established in 1871.
June was an active and involved member of First Baptist Church in De Leon. She served on many church committees and was particularly instrumental in the church's 125 th year celebration. She also taught Sunday School and was a tireless worker in Vacation Bible School and Women on Mission.
Additionally, she was an active member of De Leon Shakespeare Club for fifty years and devoted many hours to the De Leon Public Library. June loved all things historical and was a student of history throughout her life. She served on the Centennial Historical Committee in honor of De Leon's 100 th birthday celebration in 1981. June was a remarkable storyteller and related many anecdotes to all who would listen. She was a room mother for all her children and served in various positions in the PTA. She was known as a fabulous cook and donated cakes and pies to many charitable auctions which sold for premium prices.
Preceding June into the arms of the Lord was husband Billy Carruth. Survivors are daughter, Susan Wayne; sons Johnny Bob (June K) and Jimmy (Kelley). Grandchildren include Cory Carruth (Katie), Kyle Carruth ( Ann-Marie), Joshua Carruth ( Stormi), and Katie Carruth (Chris). Great grandchildren are Millana, Georgia, Rory, Laiken, Avarie Ann, Kye, Mesa, Thatcher, Baines, Pecos, Leigh and Creede.
June's family wishes to acknowledge with thanks her compassionate relatives, friends, and neighbors who continued to visit, check on her, and send cards during her lengthy illness.
Funeral services celebrating June's life were held Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at De Leon First Baptist Church with Brother Daniel Harper officiating. Ronnie Clifton shared long-time memories of the Carruth family. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ernie Escamilla, Joe Burnett, Mark Sides, Ryan Sides, Bobby Pierson, Brad Bettis, James Bruton and Bob Whitney. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Nowlin, John Mack Weaver, Sam Saleh, Thomas Moore, Charlie Glenn Carruth, Bruce Gould, Joe Vela and Dr. Dwayne Miller.
