Katie Richard Winn Whitehurst, 101, of Granbury, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016.
Katie was born on October 7, 1914 in Altus, OK to Richard Pinkney and Louise Winn. She was married to the love of her life, Ollie Audie Whitehurst, on October 22, 1932, in Sweetwater, Texas.
De Leon became their lifelong home soon after their marriage, where they enjoyed their life working hard on their farm and raising their girls, and many other young ones that came along. Katie was a devout Christian, the best wife, a loving mother, and wonderful cook. She and Audie were longtime members of De Leon First Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 61 years, Audie Whitehurst; daughter, Anna Lou Browning; son-in-law, Eddie Browning; and five siblings, Barney Winn, Jewel Westmoreland, Clause Haynes, Albert Winn, and Henry Winn.
Survivors include two daughters, Audean Hammit and husband Freddie Hammit of Granbury and Debra Whitehurst of Hillsboro; granddaughter, Sharon Jackson and husband Randy of Melissa, grandson, Gregg Hammit of Stephenville, granddaughter, Kelly Staley and husband Conley of Granbury, granddaughter, D'Liza Stockman and husband Matt of De Leon, granddaughter, Shelli McKee and husband Ty of Acton, grandson, Zac Walsh and wife Leanne of Liberty Hill, and granddaughter, Kati Smith and husband Jeremy of Midland. Katie also leaves behind a family legacy that includes 19 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of De Leon with Brother Daniel Harper officiating. Interment followed in De Leon Cemetery.
