Lee Roy
Wheat
Oct 25, 1934 — Sep 7, 2020
Lee Roy Wheat, 85, of Rucker, peacefully passed away Monday, September 7, 2020. He was born October 25, 1934, in Gorman, Texas to Albert Roy Wheat and Pearl Lee (Bailey) Wheat. Lee Roy married Peggy Grisham June 22, 1957 in Rucker, Texas.
Lee Roy was raised in the Victor community until he was ten years old before moving with his parents to Odessa, Texas where he graduated from Odessa High School in 1954 and then attended Odessa College. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1957 just a few days before his marriage to Peggy Jean Grisham. Soon after marrying Peggy Jean, Lee Roy was deployed to Karlsruhe Germany and Peggy was able to join him in 1958. They returned to the states in 1960 and Lee Roy was honorably discharged from his committed service to his country.
They settled for a while in Odessa where he was employed with Bell Telephone Company as an installer, and later lived in Abilene while still employed with Bell. In 1969, they moved back home to Rucker where Lee Roy farmed peanuts and grain, and raised cattle. He loved spending time outdoors in God's country. Lee Roy loved to "piddle" with projects including making metal art and homemade gadgets. He was a committed and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lee Roy is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Peggy Wheat; son, Kevin Brent Wheat and wife, Catherine; granddaughter, Bailey Wheat; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his two infant daughters, Karen Lynn and Debra Denise; and parents, Albert Roy and Pearl Lee Wheat.
Graveside funeral services celebrating Lee Roy's life were held Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in De Leon Cemetery with Brother Daniel Harper officiating.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made the De Leon First Baptist Church at 125 South Houston Street, De Leon.
