Obituary

Virgil Leon Boen, 78, went home to his Lord and Savior Monday, April 1, 2019 with family by his side. Leon was born November 8, 1940 in De Leon, Texas to Truman and Dessie (Snider) Boen. Leon accepted Christ as his Savior as a teenager at Downing Baptist Church. He married his loving wife of 54 years, Wanda Gore, on March 20, 1965 in De Leon, Texas.

Leon graduated from De Leon High School and went into the Air Force in November of 1959 and served his country proudly for four years. He returned to De Leon and worked at Southern Airways in Mineral Wells, Texas as Flight Chief. After returning to De Leon he operated Leon's Gulf station for many years before owning and operating Boen Dairy Farms for 26 years.

Leon loved country music and was raised in a musical family. He played guitar and was lead singer along with his brother Jack, who played the upright bass, in the band Hillbilly Kids. His enjoyment of music carried over to his children and grandchildren who frequently gathered for music sessions.

Leon loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a loving husband and father who put his family first. He enjoyed nature and being out in the country. He has often said that he felt closest to God when bringing in the cows at daybreak.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Boen; daughter, Donna Boen; son, Bryan Boen and wife Maria; grandchildren, James Morton and Ashley, Jordan Boen and partner George Tsiaras, Andrew Boen, Joshua Boen and Jacob Boen; sister, Shirley Quinn; brother, Jack Boen and wife Linda;  great grandchildren, Kaleb, Reece, Charlie Ann, and Averie Morton; nieces and nephews, Ronnie Quinn and wife Kaye, Melinda Cordova and husband John, Kenneth Quinn and wife Betty, Andy Quinn and wife Janell, Janece Sheetz and husband Steve, and Jackson Boen and wife Becky; and large extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Dessie Boen; sisters, Elaine Boen Barnett and Nancy Boen; sister-in-law, Sharyn Boen, and brothers-in-law, James Quinn and Dan Barnett; and nephew and niece, Randall Boen and Monica Floyd.
