Obituary

Leon Robert Ferriss, 81, formerly of De Leon, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born May 25, 1933, in Tama County, Iowa to Warren E. Ferriss and Ruth I. Spindler Ferriss. Leon married Bernice Wheeler September 14, 1953 in Iowa.

Leon retired from Viking Pump in Iowa as a pump manufacturer after 30 years of service. Leon proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a hard worker and a dedicated family man. Leon was Baptist. He loved to play guitar and sing. He travelled the world to play music and once played at the Grand Ole Opry.

He is survived by his daughters, Ramona Trueblood and husband, David, and Roxann Ferriss; son, Robert Ferriss and wife, Betty; grandchildren, Casandra Bigger, Camille Biden, Jacob Bigger, James Ferriss and Jessica Bigger; great-grandchildren, Tristen Bigger, B.J. Boyd, Jaylen Boyd, Ronnie Boyd and Aiden Kinsey; and sister, Marlene Dolezal. Leon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernice Ferriss and his parents.

A graveside funeral service, with military honors, was held
Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Comanche, with Pastor Elwayne Schaeffer and Brother Jackie Auvenshine officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Veteran's Administration, in memory of Leon.
