Lonnie Richardson, 89, of De Leon, went home to his Lord and Savior Monday, July 4, 2016. He was born January 8, 1927, in De Leon, to John J. Richardson and Lillie Mae Waters Richardson. Lonnie married his loving wife of 70 years, Geraldine Adams, July 14, 1945 in Dublin.
Lonnie was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of De Leon and attended the Loyalty Sunday School Class. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and was deployed to Japan. He loved his country very much and was extremely proud to be an American Veteran. In his civilian life, Lonnie retired as a Lieutenant Police Officer from the Midland Police Department after 30 years of dedicated service to his community. Lonnie and Geraldine returned home to De Leon in 1987 to enjoy their retirement. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, and in his later years, farming. Lonnie loved his family and many friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Geraldine Richardson; son, Charles Richardson and wife, Beverly, of Midland; grandchildren, Melisa Potter and husband, Noland, of Midland, and Jerry Richardson and wife, Rebecca, of Midland; great-grandchildren, Kyle Richardson, Chaselyn Richardson, Shelby Potter, Taylor Richardson and Jaden Richardson, all of Midland; brother, J.D. Richardson of De Leon; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Ray Richardson; parents, John and Lillie Richardson; brothers, Edgar Fann, Ted Fann, James "Bobby" Richardson and Leroy Richardson; and sisters, Zelma Carroll and Edith Willie Page.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home with Brother Daniel Harper officiating. Graveside services followed in De Leon Cemetery.
