Lyda ‘Jean’ Youngblood Akers, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, the age of 94. Born June 13, 1932, in Millsap, Texas, Jean lived a life defined by devotion to family, quiet strength and perseverance.

Jean attended Greenville High School where she was head cheerleader. Married Dolan Benton Akers July 1950 and moved to Dallas, Texas to start their life together and raise their family. Her passion was her family. Always supportive in every way to anyone who reached out for help. Jean retired after 41 years of service, including 25 years at Southwestern Bell and 16 years at AT&T. She also served on the board of the AT&T Credit Union for 8 years and was a lifetime member of Republican Women, Red Hatters, and Pioneers.

Lyda Jean is survived by her sons, Mike (Lanita), Greg (Polly) and their families. Her adored 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Knight and Ann Tomlin. Predeceased by husband, Ben Akers and sister, Judy Toon.

Our special thanks go to all the staff at Legacy Estate in Comanche for providing such great and compassionate care and to the nurses and staff with Solaris Hospice in showing her dignity and comfort in her final days.
