Margie Nell Land Upshaw, 90, of Colorado City, Texas, formerly of Fort Worth, went home to meet her Lord and Savior Saturday, June 1, 2019, with her loving family by her side. She was born January 27, 1929, in Ft. Worth to John David Land and Bethel Odethel Lambert Land. Margie married her loving husband of sixty four years, James Everett Upshaw, Sr., March 3, 1950. James preceded her in death in 2014.
Margie was a current member of Colorado City First Baptist Church. James was a long time minister and their ministry work took James and Margie to many different communities and churches throughout their marriage. They loved serving the Lord together and were faithful in their devotion always. Margie enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, quilting and cooking. She quilted many treasured keepsakes for her family over the years and was a wonderful cook. Margie loved hosting family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling and reading. She was a devoted homemaker and her family meant everything to her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Margie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her four children, Becky Dempsey and husband, Bobby, James Upshaw Jr. and wife, Kathy, Mary Thackerson and husband, Rex, and Penny Brittain and husband, Howard; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brother, OD Land; brother-in-law, Jack Wesley; sister-in-law, Gloria Burnett; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, John and Bethel Land; and sister, Betty Wesley.
Funeral services celebrating Margie's life will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at De Leon First Christian Church with Minister Matt Thackerson officiating. The Upshaw family will receive friends from 9-10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Margie will be laid to rest beside her husband in De Leon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Miller, BK Dempsey, Brett Halfmann, Josiah Upshaw, Jesse Upshaw, John David Johnson and Brandy Weeks. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Mitchell County Hospital at 997 Interstate 20, Colorado City, TX 79512, in memory of Margie.
