Marie Hasty Mitchell, 89, of De Leon, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014. She was born in De Leon, Comanche County, Texas to Joe Weir Hasty and Ida Zora Brown Hasty on May 18, 1925.

Marie was of the Baptist faith. She worked as a telephone operator for many years and she was well known as a waitress at several De Leon cafes. She also worked at the two original theaters in downtown De Leon. Marie graduated from De Leon High School coming from Comyn in 1944.

She spent many years having a garden and canning vegetables. Marie lived in De Leon most all of her life and loved this community. She especially enjoyed the seniors country and western dancing for many years and loved to dress up for them.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jean Thompson and husband, Jay; granddaughter, Jamie Denise Hicks and husband, Andrew; three great-grandchildren, Sierra Marie, Dylan Zachary and Matthew Kyler Hicks; brother, DeAlbert Hasty; sister-in-law, Rae Jean Hasty; nieces, Karen, Laura and Mara; nephews, Allen, JoeDee and Jimmy; and other extended family and friends.

Marie has gone home to join her parents, Joe and Ida Hasty; brother, Jack Hasty; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hasty; wonderful friend and companion, David Pettijohn; Nancy's father, A.C. "Buck" Silvey, Jr.; and late husband, Rawleigh Mitchell.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in De Leon Cemetery with Brother Ray Seckinger officiating.
