Obituary

Marjorie Carolyn Easley passed away peacefully at Houston Hospice, Houston Medical Center, on Monday night, August 3, 2020 supported by the faithful attendance of her husband, Tom Easley, daughter, Mindy Oates, and step-daughter, Shelli Easley Grant.

Marjorie was born August 19, 1944 in Marlow, Oklahoma to parents Jewell Dean Fullerton and T. J. Word. After being raised in the Baptist faith in Pampa, Texas and graduating from Pampa High School, Marjorie enrolled for a brief period of time at the University of Oklahoma. She worked for many years in accounting, principally for oil and gas companies.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Tom, of Houston; daughter, Mindy Karol Oates of Houston; step-daughter, Shelli Easley Grant (Stew) of The Woodlands; step-son, Greg (Janet) of Temple; aunt, Dee Miller and husband Eska of McKinney; grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary (Koey), Jonathan (Kensington), Stephen, Kaleb and Tyler; and a number of cousins. Marjorie was preceded in death by her son, Mark Oates in 1984; brother, Roy Caroll Word in January 2020, her beloved mother, Jewell Dean Lewis, in 2011; step-father, Wesley Lewis in 1965; an aunt, Dorothy Thornton; and father, T. J. Word. Marjorie had an extended network of friends who will remember her as a loyal and supportive friend.

Her husband, Tom, and family members are grateful and have been blessed by the kindness and care provided over the past 2 years by caregivers Kim Hughes and Lollie Florses; Dr. Gustavo Roman and staff of the Methodist Houston Neurological Department and Nantz Alzheimer Center of Houston; and Donna Composto, who assisted in the enrollment of Marjorie in the Houston Hospice System which provided her with such loving care that permitted her passing in peace.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, August 8, 2020 in De Leon Cemetery with Dr. Reverend Stew Grant of The Woodlands, Texas officiating, and Brother Joel Shumate of Temple, Texas assisting. A memorial service in Houston is planned for a later date.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Alzheimer Association, Methodist Houston Neurological Department, or Houston Hospice in honor of Marjorie.

Due to the current COVID-19 regulations on group gatherings, we kindly ask that any friends planning to attend Marjorie's graveside service respectfully stand at least 20 feet from the tent. Also, please do not gather in groups larger than 10 people (at the advised 6 foot distance). The tent seating will be reserved for immediate family only. We are saddened that we cannot currently allow friends to pay their respects to the Easley family with a traditional ceremony. The family appreciates your understanding of the graveside safety regulations and is thankful for your continued prayers and kind thoughts during this difficult time. Masks are encouraged if social distancing is not possible at the graveside service.

Per Comanche County current regulations, our funeral home facilities are limited to 50% capacity. Masks are currently required inside commercial properties. If you need a mask, please ask our staff for one. Thank you.
